Breaking News: Rafah Crossing Reopens Amid Urgent Medical Needs
Gaza City – The Rafah land crossing between Gaza and Egypt has reopened for medical patients and wounded individuals. This comes as thousands in Gaza seek urgent medical treatment unavailable in the territory.
Nebal al-Hessi, a 25-year-old mother, is among those hoping to travel. She lost both arms in an Israeli artillery attack in October 2024, and requires advanced prosthetics to regain independence. “I die a little every day because of my current situation,” she said.
Nada Arhouma, a 16-year-old girl, also waits for treatment. She suffered severe facial injuries and needs reconstructive surgery and a prosthetic eye. Her father expressed frustration over the uncertainty surrounding the crossing’s reopening.
Raed Hamad, a cancer patient, described the struggle to access necessary treatments. He has faced significant health deterioration due to the ongoing conflict.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports thousands remain in need of medical transfers. The reopening may offer hope, but many families remain anxious about the selection process and the number of patients allowed to cross.
