Breaking News: Dilling Markets Reopen Amid Ongoing Crisis
Markets in Dilling, South Kordofan’s second-largest city, have reopened following the end of a two-year siege by paramilitary forces. The Sudanese army has regained control, allowing goods to flow back into the city.
Local traders report the return of fresh produce, including vegetables and fruits. However, the economic recovery is slow, and many residents are still struggling with the aftermath of the blockade.
Dilling’s health sector remains critically affected. The main hospital is facing severe shortages of medical equipment and essential medicines. Local resident Abdelrahman, who suffers from diabetes, experienced significant health decline due to a lack of insulin during the siege, leading to the amputation of both legs.
Despite the lifting of the blockade, residents face ongoing threats from drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North. Many families, like that of Maryam, a displaced mother, are still living in fear of aerial bombardments.
While the reopening of markets offers some hope, the community continues to deal with deep scars from the prolonged conflict and urgent humanitarian needs.
