US Eases Oil Embargo on Cuba Amid Humanitarian Crisis Concerns from Caribbean Neighbors

Breaking News: US Eases Oil Embargo on Cuba

The United States has announced a change in its oil embargo on Cuba. The US will now allow the resale of some Venezuelan oil to Cuba. This decision aims to help alleviate Cuba’s severe fuel shortages.

On Wednesday, the US Department of the Treasury stated that companies can apply for licenses to resell Venezuelan oil for “commercial and humanitarian use” in Cuba. However, this new policy will not apply to any entities linked to the Cuban military or government.

Cuba has faced an energy crisis, worsened by the US blockade and halted shipments from Venezuela and Mexico. Caribbean leaders have expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Cuba, warning that a prolonged crisis could destabilize the region.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized that humanitarian suffering affects everyone. He stated that a crisis in Cuba would not remain contained.

In related news, Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior reported a violent incident involving a Florida-registered speedboat, resulting in four deaths and six injuries. US officials clarified that no American personnel were involved.
