Breaking News: Top Foreign Office Official Resigns Amid Security Vetting Fiasco

A senior official from the UK Foreign Office has resigned following a security vetting controversy. Olly Robbins, the civil servant involved, was ousted after it was revealed that Peter Mandelson failed his security assessment before being appointed as the UK envoy to Washington.

Labour Party leader Keir Starmer expressed anger over not being informed about Mandelson’s vetting failure. He described the Foreign Office’s decision to override security recommendations as “staggering” and “unforgivable.”

Starmer stated he only learned of the situation shortly before it became public on Thursday. He plans to address Parliament on Monday to provide “all the relevant facts” regarding the incident.

Darren Jones, chief secretary to the prime minister, confirmed that the recommendation against Mandelson’s appointment was ignored. He noted that no government minister was informed of the security assessment, a decision attributed to the sensitive nature of the information.

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch criticized the prime minister, claiming the situation is implausible and calling for accountability. Meanwhile, police are investigating allegations of misconduct involving Mandelson, who faces scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
