Breaking News: Mexican Government Arrests EU’s Most Wanted Drug Trafficker
The Mexican government has apprehended Janos Balla, a 48-year-old Hungarian citizen and suspected drug trafficker, in Quintana Roo. Balla, who is also known as “Daniel Takacs,” was on the European Union’s “most wanted fugitives” list.
On Saturday, Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch confirmed the arrest. Balla has been sentenced to six years in prison in the EU for smuggling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He was detained under an Interpol red notice, which requests international assistance for the arrest of fugitives.
Mexican authorities credited their collaboration with Hungarian agencies for the successful operation. They identified Balla’s location in Benito Juarez, leading to his arrest on Politecnico Avenue.
Balla is currently in the custody of Mexico’s National Institute of Migration while his immigration status is assessed. The process for his deportation to Europe will continue.
This arrest follows a series of high-profile captures under President Claudia Sheinbaum, who is intensifying efforts against drug trafficking in Mexico.
