Breaking News: Tensions Rise in the Gulf
Tensions have escalated in the Gulf as the United States and Iran have both reported firing on each other’s ships, despite a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict. The situation intensified after President Donald Trump announced a plan called “Project Freedom” to guide stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has warned that any ships attempting to use the strait without permission from its military will be attacked. Currently, around 2,000 vessels are stuck on either side of the strait, which has been largely closed since late February.
On Monday, Iranian media claimed that a U.S. warship was hit by Iranian drones after refusing to turn back. The U.S. Central Command denied this, stating that it had sunk Iranian vessels instead. Iran has since released a new map showing expanded control over the strait.
Additionally, the United Arab Emirates accused Iran of launching missile and drone attacks on its Fujairah emirate, causing a fire at an oil refinery and injuring three individuals. Iran has denied planning any attacks on UAE facilities.
The situation remains fluid, with both sides exchanging claims and counterclaims, raising fears of further confrontation.
