Breaking News: US Offers $100 Million Aid to Cuba with Conditions
The United States has announced a $100 million humanitarian aid package for Cuba, contingent upon the island’s communist government agreeing to implement “meaningful reforms.”
This offer was made public by the US State Department on Wednesday. Officials noted that the proposal had been made privately in the past. The statement emphasized that the decision to accept the aid rests with the Cuban government.
The US government has linked the aid to specific changes approved by President Trump. The State Department stated that the Cuban regime is responsible for denying critical assistance to its people.
Cuba is currently facing a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by an oil blockade, which has severely affected its energy supply. The island relies heavily on foreign oil imports, with only 40 percent of its supply produced domestically.
The United Nations has warned of a potential humanitarian collapse in Cuba, citing rising food prices and struggling public services. The US has indicated that if Cuba accepts the aid, it will be distributed through the Catholic Church and other independent organizations, rather than the Cuban government.
