Breaking News: EU Condemns Russia’s Threats to Diplomats
On May 26, 2026, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and the European Union summoned Russian envoys following Moscow’s warning for foreigners and diplomats to leave Kyiv. This warning comes amid preparations for renewed air strikes in Ukraine.
EU spokesperson Anitta Hipper described Russia’s threats as an “unacceptable escalation.” She emphasized the need for Moscow to cease attacks on civilians and engage in genuine peace talks, starting with a full ceasefire.
Russia recently announced plans to conduct systematic strikes on Ukrainian military facilities in Kyiv. This follows a weekend attack that resulted in four deaths, utilizing advanced weapons like the Oreshknik hypersonic missile.
In response to Russia’s warning, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office condemned the threats, asserting that they would not be intimidated and would continue supporting Ukraine. Norway and the Netherlands also summoned their Russian ambassadors to express their concerns.
The situation remains tense, with no clear resolution in sight as diplomatic efforts have stalled.
