Breaking News: Iran Launches Retaliatory Strike on US Base
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed a retaliatory strike on a base used by US forces. This action follows an alleged US attack on an Iranian communications tower on Sirik Island in Hormozgan Province. The IRGC claims the airbase from which the attack originated was targeted, resulting in the destruction of predicted targets.
Kuwait’s state news agency reported that air defenses intercepted missiles and drones during the incident. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Iranian attacks, stating they threaten regional security and stability.
This escalation comes after the United States conducted strikes on Iranian positions over the weekend, citing “aggressive Iranian actions,” including the downing of a US drone. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported no US troops were injured in these operations.
Current tensions are part of ongoing indirect negotiations between the US and Iran aimed at extending a fragile ceasefire established in April. There are mixed signals regarding the progress of these discussions, which may lead to a new agreement concerning shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program.
