Ahmedabad, India — A tragic plane crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when Air India Flight 171 crashed into a hostel near Meghani Nagar, killing 259 people, including 241 on board and 18 on the ground.
Sita Patni, a local tea stall owner, suffered severe burns while trying to save her son, Aakash, who was sleeping under her stall. Witnesses reported a loud explosion around 1:39 PM, followed by flames engulfing the area. Patni’s son was later confirmed dead at the hospital, 20 days after the crash.
Salim Patel, 150 kilometers away, mourned the loss of his son Sahil, who had recently won a visa lottery for the UK. Patel criticized the airline and demanded accountability for the crash, which preliminary reports attributed to pilot error.
In London, Muhammad Shethwala faces deportation after the loss of his wife and daughter in the crash. He is contesting the UK government’s order, seeking legal support without assistance from Air India.
