Breaking News: Cargo Ship Attacked in Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a truce after a cargo ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred on Thursday when the ship was struck by a projectile. No injuries were reported.
In response to the attack, the UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) has paused the evacuation of over 11,000 sailors stranded in the area. Trump stated on Truth Social that Iran fired at least four drones at ships, with one hitting the cargo vessel.
Tehran has not directly responded to Trump’s accusations, but Iranian state media reported on his comments. The attack followed warnings from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that crossing the strait along a route designated by the IMO would be “unacceptable.”
The cargo ship, named Ever Lovely, is registered in Singapore. It was following the IMO’s recommended route when it was struck about 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Oman’s port of Dahit. The ship’s owner, Evergreen, reported limited damage, stating all crew members and cargo are safe, and the vessel has continued its journey.
