Breaking News: US Military Strikes Iranian Targets
The US military has carried out strikes on Iranian targets following President Donald Trump’s accusation of a “foolish violation” of a ceasefire. This comes after an attack on the cargo ship Ever Lovely in the Strait of Hormuz, which was hit by a drone on Thursday. No casualties were reported from the incident.
In response, US Central Command announced on Friday that it targeted missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar positions in Iran. Trump had warned of a response shortly before the strikes, stating, “you’ll see” when asked about retaliation.
Central Command described the strikes as “a powerful response” to the drone attack, emphasizing that Iranian aggression violated the ceasefire and disrupted freedom of navigation in the vital trade corridor.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) condemned the US strikes and warned of a more extensive response if aggression continues. They also accused Israel of violating a ceasefire in Lebanon.
The recent tensions have raised concerns about maritime safety and triggered a spike in global oil prices. Meanwhile, the UN has paused the evacuation of over 11,000 sailors stranded in the area since the conflict began.
