Breaking News: Bomb Blast in Central Damascus

A bomb blast at a crowded cafe in central Damascus has killed at least six people and injured 22 others, according to Syrian state media. The interior ministry reported that an explosive device was planted inside the cafe, located only 100 meters from the Palace of Justice.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. This incident marks the deadliest bombing in Damascus since a suicide attack on a church in June 2025, which killed 25 people.

Witnesses reported a strong shock wave from the explosion. Mohammed al-Dahabi, a nearby shop owner, described seeing people lying on the floor with blood around them. Graphic video footage shared on social media showed at least two men motionless on the cafe’s outdoor terrace.

Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Idlibi visited the scene and stated that those responsible would be punished. He noted that attempts to destabilize the country occur whenever there is a period of stability.

The recent attack is part of a series of violent incidents in Damascus since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Security remains a significant challenge for interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
