Breaking News: Khamenei’s Funeral Arrangements Announced
The body of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will travel to Najaf, Iraq, on Wednesday. A procession will take place at the shrine of Imam Ali, the first imam in Shia Islam. Following this, ceremonies will occur in Karbala before the body returns to Iran.
Iranian officials state that these events in Iraq follow requests from local groups. They highlight Khamenei’s influence in the Shia Muslim community and Iran’s regional ties. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Baghdad to help organize the funeral, emphasizing its symbolic importance.
On Thursday, Khamenei will be buried in his birthplace, Mashhad, at the Imam Reza Shrine, a major pilgrimage site in Shia Islam. This site attracts millions of visitors annually.
Representatives from several countries, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, are expected to attend the ceremonies. Commemorative events will continue across Iran for 40 days, leading up to the first anniversary of Khamenei’s burial.
