Breaking News: Investigation Launched After Boy Injured in Crocodile Enclosure
Investigations are underway following the serious injury of a three-year-old boy at Johnsons of Old Hurst near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The incident occurred on June 18 when the boy was attacked by a crocodile.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been released on bail until September 18. Police reported that he was assessed as not fit for interview. The man, believed to have learning disabilities, was visiting the zoo with carers and did not know the child.
The boy, who remains in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, has undergone five surgeries and faces a long rehabilitation process.
Norfolk County Council has launched an inquiry under the Care Act 2014, stating it did not provide care for the arrested man. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is also conducting an assessment of the registered provider involved.
Cambridgeshire Police responded to the zoo at approximately 13:30 BST on the day of the attack. The CQC has indicated it will take regulatory action if immediate risks are identified.
