Breaking News: US-Iran Conflict Escalates
The United States launched new attacks on Iran on Sunday evening. Iranian state media reported one death and four injuries in southwestern Iran due to these strikes.
Hours later, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have targeted US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain. The situation raises concerns about the future of a recent US-Iran agreement.
Iran has announced it has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for oil transport, while the US insists it remains open. US Central Command (Centcom) reported that strikes began at 5:00 PM ET, targeting Iranian military assets including air-defense systems and coastal radar sites.
Following the attacks, oil prices surged in Asia on Monday. Brent crude rose by 4% to $79.07 a barrel, and US-traded oil increased by 4.2% to $74.53.
The renewed hostilities threaten a ceasefire agreement signed last month. US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire is over, while Iran’s Foreign Minister accused the US of violating the deal. Centcom maintained that the Strait remains open and that US forces are ready to ensure safe navigation for commercial shipping.
