Breaking: Flights Diverted from Gatwick Airport After British Airways Plane Blocks Runway Due to Technical Fault

Breaking News: Flights Diverted from Gatwick Airport

A number of flights were diverted from Gatwick Airport today after a British Airways plane blocked one of its runways. Emergency services met the aircraft upon landing due to a reported “technical fault.”

One diverted flight, an already-delayed EasyJet service from Rome, landed at Stansted Airport instead. Passengers on that flight were stuck for over two hours before they could disembark, as the plane was unable to find fuel.

The British Airways plane reportedly had a landing gear issue but landed safely. Passengers disembarked normally after the incident.

A spokesperson for London Gatwick confirmed that the runway was closed briefly due to the technical issue. They stated that a small number of flights were diverted but most returned to Gatwick later.

There were several delays for arrivals and departures from Gatwick Airport on Wednesday, though it is unclear if these were related to the earlier runway closure. Safety and security remain the airport’s top priority.
