Breaking News: Man Arrested for Threat Against Nigel Farage
A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK. The threat was made in a post on social media platform X and was reported to police on May 8, the day after local and mayoral elections.
The Metropolitan Police arrested a man in his 20s in south London on Tuesday on suspicion of sending threatening communications to a Member of Parliament. He has been released on bail while investigations continue.
This arrest follows the recent killing of Reform spokesperson Ann Widdecombe at her home in Devon. The Parliamentary Liaison and Investigation Team informed Farage of the arrest on Wednesday.
Farage commented that this is the first instance where police have acted on a social media threat. He expressed hope that authorities will investigate other similar posts made this year.
In related news, Zia Yusuf, the home affairs spokesperson for Reform UK, stated that a future Reform UK government would ensure round-the-clock protection for all MPs. Yusuf emphasized that Farage faces ongoing threats to his safety.
