Breaking News: MLS Investigates Inter Miami for Tampering
Major League Soccer (MLS) is investigating Inter Miami for alleged tampering after the club signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro. The 34-year-old player, who left Manchester United at the end of last season, signed a deal with Miami that runs until the end of the 2027 season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Shortly after the announcement, MLS released a statement confirming the investigation into the tampering allegation. The league is currently gathering information and will not comment further until the review is complete.
Inter Miami claimed they acquired the discovery rights for Casemiro from LA Galaxy, who originally held those rights. The Galaxy confirmed that a settlement was reached regarding the discovery priority for signing Casemiro and stated that terms will be disclosed after the investigation concludes.
Discovery rights are an MLS regulation allowing a club to have the first option to sign a player. Each club can maintain a list of up to five players for these rights.
This is not the first instance of scrutiny for Inter Miami; they were fined $2 million in 2021 for violating MLS rules during the signing of midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
