Breaking News: Fire Response Update
Neil Gray, the Scottish Cabinet Secretary, announced that decisions on tackling a significant fire near Glenmore are based on evidence. He stated that the government relies on emergency services for guidance in their response.
Gray confirmed that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is utilizing all available resources. He mentioned that the government has contacted the military for additional helicopters after exhausting all commercial options, but has not yet received a response.
Currently, two helicopters are available for firefighting efforts, with more expected on Sunday. These helicopters are provided by the commercial sector under a contract managed by NatureScot.
The fire began on Wednesday and has resulted in the evacuation of residents and campsites. At its peak, it affected approximately six square kilometers of heather and small trees. Over 500 firefighters are actively working to control the blaze.
