Breaking News: Investigation into Elephant Deaths in Kenya
An urgent investigation has begun into the deaths of 14 elephants near Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) reported that experts are examining the carcasses. Tissue samples have been sent to laboratories to find out if disease, poisoning, or another cause led to the deaths.
This incident marks the first time in decades that such a large number of elephant deaths has been recorded in this area, known for its wildlife and anti-poaching efforts. KWS stated that there is currently no evidence pointing to a single cause of death.
The deceased elephants include individuals of various ages and sexes, indicating that the deaths are not confined to one family group. The bodies were found in different locations, ranging from 15 to 30 kilometers from the park’s boundaries.
Duncan Wanyama, KWS’s head of communication, confirmed the locations of the carcasses. According to the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, there were over 2,000 elephants in the Amboseli ecosystem as of 2025. The investigation is ongoing.
