Breaking News: Police Review Unexplained Deaths at Cornwall Homeless Shelter
Police in Cornwall are reviewing the unexplained deaths of four individuals who lived at a homeless shelter, Sandy Lodge, at the same time as convicted murderer James Desborough.
Desborough, 40, was found guilty of murdering two men he met at the shelter. He was also sentenced earlier this year for killing his cellmate while in Exeter Prison.
Detective Superintendent Rachael Bentley from Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that the deaths of two men and two women between December 2024 and April 2025 are under investigation.
Bentley stated, “As part of the investigation, a detective inspector reviewed those deaths, which included additional forensic work and CCTV analysis.”
The police have indicated that the deaths are still considered unexpected. Bentley added that Desborough is not a suspect at this time and that there is currently no believed link to the deaths.
Police had initially attended each incident and suggested natural causes. However, coronial investigations were paused following Desborough’s arrest. Inquiries are ongoing.
