Breaking News: US Military Launches Strikes Against Iran
The US military has begun airstrikes against Iran. This action follows an attempted surprise attack on American forces in the Middle East. Central Command (Centcom) announced the strikes on X, describing them as a “powerful response” to Iran’s recent attacks on US bases in Jordan and on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict escalated after joint US-Saudi strikes targeted Iranian proxies in Iraq. These strikes occurred following days of relative calm, as both sides had reportedly paused hostilities in hopes of diplomatic negotiations.
Hours before the strikes, President Trump emphasized the US would retaliate against Iran for their actions. He stated, “We’re going to be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn to hit them.”
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for targeting a US air base in Jordan. They also reported attacks on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
In related developments, Iraq’s paramilitary forces reported casualties from the US-Saudi strikes, which the Iraqi presidency condemned as a violation of sovereignty. President Trump, however, asserted that the strikes were coordinated with the Iraqi government.
