Breaking News: Boy Swims to Safety for Family
Police have released audio of a call made by a 13-year-old boy from Australia, Austin Appelbee. He swam for hours to seek help for his family, who were swept out to sea in February.
In the call, Austin reported that his siblings, Beau, 12, and Grace, 8, along with their mother, were still in the water. He expressed his fear, saying, “I don’t know what their condition is right now and I’m really scared.”
Austin also mentioned that he felt “extremely tired” after his difficult swim. Shortly after making the call, he passed out and was taken to the hospital.
Medical staff later informed him that his siblings and mother had been rescued 14 kilometers (8.5 miles) offshore and were alive and well. The rescue operation was successful, and all family members are now safe.
