Breaking News: China Imposes Export Restrictions on Japanese Firms
China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced new export restrictions targeting 20 Japanese companies. These firms are accused of potentially using “dual-use” items for military purposes.
Japanese Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Sato Kei condemned the move, calling it “deplorable” and stating that Japan would not tolerate such actions.
Affected companies include Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Japan’s National Defense Academy. These firms are believed to be involved in enhancing Japan’s military capabilities.
Beijing claims that the restrictions are necessary for national security and to meet international obligations, such as non-proliferation. The Chinese government will also add another 20 entities to its export restrictions watchlist, including Subaru and ENEOS Corporation.
Chinese exporters must now submit risk assessment reports for each company to ensure that dual-use items are not used to strengthen Japan’s military.
This move escalates ongoing tensions between Japan and China, particularly following recent remarks by Japanese officials about potential military involvement concerning Taiwan.
