Breaking News: Attack in Nigeria Leaves At Least 50 Dead
Gunmen killed at least 50 people in an overnight attack on Tungan Dutse village in Zamfara State, Nigeria. The assault began late Thursday night and continued into Friday morning. Armed men on motorcycles set fire to buildings and abducted women and children.
Hamisu A. Faru, a local lawmaker, reported the death toll and stated that the number of abducted individuals is still being determined. Local officials are compiling lists of the missing.
Residents had warned security forces about armed men seen on motorcycles prior to the attack, but no action was taken. Abdullahi Sani, a villager, confirmed that three members of his family were killed.
This incident is part of ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s north and west, where armed gangs and rebel fighters operate. Just last week, at least 46 people were killed in a similar raid in Niger State.
Authorities are under increasing pressure to address the violence, which has drawn international attention and prompted security cooperation with the United States.
