Breaking News: Rafah Border Crossing Partially Reopens
Israel has partially reopened the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The crossing is now operational in a limited capacity, according to Israeli authorities.
On Sunday, Israel announced a trial reopening of the crossing. The Israeli military agency, COGAT, stated that residents of Gaza would start passing through on Monday. The crossing is intended for the limited movement of individuals, primarily for medical evacuations and education.
COGAT confirmed that a screening facility has been established for Palestinians using the crossing. The Rafah crossing has been largely closed since Israel’s military actions began in May 2024.
In related news, an Israeli drone strike in Rafah on Sunday killed one person, identified as Khaled Hammad Ahmed Dahleez, 63. Another drone attack in central Gaza resulted in one additional death.
Since the beginning of a U.S.-backed ceasefire on October 10, at least 511 Palestinians have been killed, and over 1,400 have been injured.
Additionally, Israel announced it will terminate the operations of Doctors Without Borders in Gaza due to non-compliance with staff reporting requirements.
