Breaking News: BNP Wins Bangladesh Election

Islamabad, Pakistan – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections held on February 12, 2026. Unofficial results indicate that the BNP-led coalition secured 209 seats in the 350-member parliament, achieving a two-thirds majority.

This election is noted as the first genuinely competitive election in Bangladesh in nearly two decades. The main rival, the Jamaat-e-Islami-led coalition, won 74 seats.

Following the announcement of the results, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister congratulated BNP leader Tarique Rahman. Modi expressed India’s support for a democratic Bangladesh.

Analysts suggest this election could change Bangladesh’s relations with India and Pakistan. The BNP may adopt a more balanced foreign policy, navigating ties with both nations.

China’s embassy also congratulated the BNP, indicating readiness to strengthen relations. The new government will face challenges in balancing these international relationships while prioritizing Bangladesh’s national interests.

Rahman is expected to assume office soon, marking a new chapter in Bangladeshi politics.
