Breaking News: Mexican Security Forces Kill Notorious Drug Lord “El Mencho,” Sparking Violence Across Jalisco and Beyond

Breaking News: Drug Lord Killed, Violence Erupts in Mexico

Mexican security forces have killed drug lord Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.” He led one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations. Oseguera was wounded in a clash with soldiers in Tapalpa, Jalisco, and died while being flown to Mexico City.

The U.S. had placed a $15 million bounty on him. Following his death, violence erupted in several areas, including Jalisco. Gunmen set cars on fire and blocked highways. Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, saw many residents stay indoors as panic spread. Videos showed people running through Guadalajara airport while smoke rose over Puerto Vallarta.

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus advised residents to stay home and suspended public transportation. Schools were closed in multiple states. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised security forces and urged calm.

The operation, supported by U.S. authorities, resulted in the deaths of four members of Oseguera’s cartel, with two others dying during transport. Three soldiers were injured. The U.S. State Department and Canada issued travel warnings for several Mexican states, advising citizens to stay safe.

Air Canada, United Airlines, and American Airlines have canceled flights to affected areas.
