Maxim Naumov Honors Late Parents with Emotional Performance, Secures Spot in Free Skate at Olympics

Breaking News: Skater Maxim Naumov Competes at Olympics

Maxim Naumov, a 24-year-old figure skater from the United States, performed at the Olympic Games on Tuesday. This marks a significant moment for Naumov, who lost his parents in a plane crash last year. Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, both former world champion pairs skaters, were among 67 victims of the crash.

Before their passing, Naumov discussed his dream of joining Team USA with his parents. He expressed his desire to make them proud during his performance. After a slight slip on his triple axel, he regained his composure and skated a technically solid routine to Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20.

As he finished, Naumov knelt on the ice with tears in his eyes, looking to the sky. He received a season-best score of 85.65 points, securing a spot in the top 24 for the free skate on Friday.

Naumov held up a childhood picture of himself with his parents, stating he carries it everywhere. He reflected on their support and expressed that they deserved to share this moment with him.
