Urgent: Humanitarian Operations in South Sudan Crippled by Attacks and Looting Amid Renewed Fighting

Breaking News: Humanitarian Efforts Halted in South Sudan

Humanitarian operations in South Sudan are facing severe challenges due to attacks, looting, and restrictions on movement. Recent violence between government forces and opposition fighters has displaced an estimated 280,000 people since late December.

Ajok Ding Duot, a resident of a displacement camp in Lakes state, arrived two weeks ago with her family, fleeing the fighting. They rely on nuts and wild fruits for survival, as food supplies are scarce.

The United Nations reports that over 450,000 children are at risk of acute malnutrition due to the ongoing conflict and disrupted medical services. Nearly 10 million people in South Sudan require urgent humanitarian assistance.

The World Food Programme suspended operations in Baliet county after repeated attacks on aid convoys. Medical NGO Doctors Without Borders reported a hospital in Jonglei was struck by a government air attack, marking the tenth incident in a year.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalating violence and called for immediate action to protect civilians and ensure safe access for humanitarian workers.
