Position Summary:
As the Utilities Lead, you will report directly to the Operations Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the operations and maintenance of the facility, including utilities such as HVAC, compressed air, ammonia, and boiler systems. Your leadership will ensure a safe and reliable operation that meets both internal and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Leadership: Foster a culture of safety by leading by example and prioritizing a zero-accident environment across all operations.

  • System Management: Supervise the operation, inspection, and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, and utility systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety codes.

  • Scheduling and Compliance: Develop and manage work schedules and inspection routines for refrigeration operators, aligning with regulatory standards and plant safety protocols.

  • Legislative Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, providing clear instructions and enforcing plant safety rules to protect employee health and wellbeing.

  • Training Facilitation: Support and enhance training programs that improve technical knowledge and safety awareness in line with departmental development plans.

  • Maintenance Oversight: Manage facility maintenance upgrades and repairs, overseeing operational and capital expenditures while maintaining budgetary discipline.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work with site leadership to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for infrastructure and operational improvements.

  • Efficiency Initiatives: Drive cost and waste reduction initiatives that enhance operational efficiency without compromising quality.

  • Utility Optimization: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of waste and utility systems, identifying opportunities for optimization in manufacturing processes.

  • Union Relations: Promote positive relations between management and union representatives through proactive problem-solving and proper administration of the Collective Agreement.

  • Process Safety Management: Lead the facility’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program in collaboration with the SHE department.

  • Technical Authority: Act as the technical authority for ammonia and boiler systems, representing the site in discussions with corporate and global engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • Refrigeration A License and a license to operate boilers.
  • Diploma or B.S. degree in a manufacturing, scientific, or engineering discipline; Chemical or Process Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally in food manufacturing.
  • Strong technical background with a basic understanding of process controls and automation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Facilities Maintenance/Management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks within tight deadlines.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $84,900 to $127,300, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications. This role is also eligible for bonuses and long-term incentives.
