Breaking News: Peace Talks Set to Begin in Geneva
Delegations from Russia and Ukraine are scheduled to meet in Geneva for peace talks starting on Tuesday. The discussions are expected to last two days and will focus on territorial issues. This comes just days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
U.S. President Donald Trump is advocating for a swift resolution to the conflict, urging both sides to reach an agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concerns about pressure from the U.S. to make concessions.
Russia is demanding that Ukraine cede control of 20% of the Donetsk region, which Ukraine has refused. Trump emphasized the importance of the negotiations, stating that Ukraine needs to participate quickly.
The Kremlin announced that the talks will be held behind closed doors. Russia’s delegation will be led by Vladimir Medinsky, while Ukraine will be represented by Rustem Umerov.
Both sides have indicated a lack of willingness to compromise. Zelenskyy highlighted ongoing military actions by Russia, suggesting that diplomatic efforts are not being taken seriously.
This round of talks follows previous meetings in Abu Dhabi, which did not yield any significant progress.
