About Rescue Dada Centre

Rescue Dada Centre, a registered Charitable Children’s Institution (CCI) under the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi, has been dedicated to supporting street-connected children since its establishment in 1992. Our mission focuses on reducing the number of street-connected girls in Nairobi, empowering them to reach their full potential while enhancing the livelihood security of their caregivers. We implement both preventive and curative interventions, which include the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and resocialization of these girls into safe family environments. Our programs also provide educational sponsorship, enhance caregivers’ skills, and promote community and governmental commitment to children’s rights.

About the Project

The Empowerment Officer will play a vital role in the Vocational Training and Economic Empowerment for Former Street-Connected Girls Project, a 12-month initiative from May 2026 to May 2027. This project aims to equip 60 rehabilitated girls with certified vocational skills relevant to the job market, facilitating their transition into sustainable livelihoods. The program includes two training pathways: 40 girls will receive enhanced internal training in Hairdressing and Beauty at the Centre, while 20 will enroll in accredited Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across various trades.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Empowerment Manager, the Empowerment Officer will ensure the effective implementation of the project. Responsibilities include coordinating vocational training placements, supporting skills development, facilitating transitions into employment or self-employment, and providing continuous monitoring and mentorship to beneficiaries. The Officer will collaborate with TVET institutions, employers, and other stakeholders to create training and job placement opportunities, ensuring all interventions are child-friendly, rights-based, and trauma-informed.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Implementation

    • Develop and coordinate monthly work plans aligning with the annual project plan and standard operating procedures.
    • Support project activities in compliance with approved budgets and financial policies.
    • Participate in monthly project review meetings and contribute to adaptive planning.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of all project activities using reporting tools.
    • Prepare and submit timely progress reports.
  2. Networking and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Establish and maintain partnerships with accredited TVET institutions and private sector actors.
    • Manage stakeholder relationships to ensure effective collaboration.
    • Negotiate training opportunities and develop Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with training providers and employers.
  3. Vocational Skills Training Coordination

    • Coordinate placements for beneficiaries in vocational training programs.
    • Monitor the quality and relevance of training provided by partner institutions.
    • Facilitate and oversee one-month industrial attachments for trainees.
  4. Career Guidance and Skills Development

    • Provide individualized career guidance and coaching.
    • Facilitate training in business, life, and employability skills.
    • Support beneficiaries in developing realistic career pathways.
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation

    • Conduct regular monitoring of trainees through follow-ups and field visits.
    • Track trainee progress and well-being throughout the training period.
    • Facilitate reflection sessions to assess training experiences.
  6. Transition to Employment and Self-Employment

    • Support beneficiaries in accessing job opportunities.
    • Facilitate allocation of start-up kits or grants based on approved criteria.
    • Provide mentorship to beneficiaries transitioning into employment or entrepreneurship.
  7. Administration and Data Management

    • Maintain accurate and confidential beneficiary records.
    • Conduct baseline and endline assessments.
    • Regularly update program databases and prepare individual work plans.

Personal Profile

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in Community Development, Business Management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community development, business development, or vocational training.
  • Strong understanding of human rights, particularly children’s and women’s rights.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Fluent in English and Swahili.
  • Must possess a certificate of good conduct.
