Breaking News: Racing Driver Juha Miettinen Dies in Crash
Racing driver Juha Miettinen has died following a seven-car crash during the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie qualifiers in Germany on Saturday.
The race was initially stopped by a red flag and was suspended an hour later due to the severity of the collision. Organizers confirmed that the race would not continue that evening.
Race control halted the event to facilitate recovery and rescue operations. Emergency services arrived quickly, but medics were unable to save Miettinen after he was extracted from his vehicle. He died at the medical center despite efforts to resuscitate him.
Six other drivers were taken to the hospital for examination, but none are reported to be in life-threatening condition.
Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, who was participating in the event, expressed his condolences on social media, noting the dangers of motorsport. A minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Miettinen during the grid formation for Sunday’s race.
