Breaking News: Iranian Gunboat Fires on Container Vessel Near Oman

An Iranian gunboat fired on a container vessel near the coast of Oman, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension of a ceasefire with Iran.

The captain of the vessel reported that an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ship approached before shots were fired. The UKMTO stated that the gunfire caused heavy damage to the vessel’s bridge, but there were no reported casualties or fires.

The container ship was sailing under a Liberian flag and had received permission to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian news agency Tasnim claimed the vessel ignored warnings from Iranian armed forces.

The IRGC cited the U.S. seizure of an Iranian commercial ship in the Sea of Oman as a reason for its actions, accusing the U.S. of “armed piracy.” President Trump announced the delay of a military attack on Iran but maintained a U.S. naval blockade in the Strait.

No further details have been released regarding the ongoing situation.
