Job Title: Automation and Controls Engineer

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dedicated Automation and Controls Engineer to oversee the complete delivery of site capital projects focused on electrical upgrades, controls, and automation. This role is essential in driving the site master plan for electrical systems and automation, ensuring alignment with Unilever’s design standards and global engineering teams. Beyond project execution, you will provide technical support for daily operations and reliability initiatives, promoting safe, efficient, and sustainable manufacturing performance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all electrical engineering and controls/automation capital projects at the site, ensuring compliance with Unilever’s corporate standards.
  • Act as the site expert for electrical and automation systems, offering technical guidance on SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, variable speed drives, and servo-motion control to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Manage software modifications and optimize control programs, maintaining accurate documentation and version control for all systems.
  • Develop and execute the plant master plan for electrical systems and controls/automation in line with Unilever’s global design standards.
  • Provide technical input to category engineering teams for innovation and renovation projects, facilitating new product introductions and re-stages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and union workforce, to implement improvement initiatives and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for electrical, instrumentation, and control system failures to improve reliability.
  • Champion value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives, introducing innovative practices to reduce costs while upholding Unilever’s core values.
  • Ensure the timely and complete delivery of assigned capital projects, managing budgets typically ranging from €0.05M to €2M, with safety as the top priority.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field.
  • Knowledge of software/PLC programming and process/packaging electrical hardware.
  • Experience: 2-3+ years in Controls Engineering within the FMCG or related industry, or in an engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven project management experience with electrical, controls, and automation systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer status or membership in a professional institution.
  • Direct experience delivering major electrical and controls/automation capital projects within Unilever or a similar FMCG environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: The pay range for this position is $69,360 to $104,040, influenced by factors such as skills, experience, training, and organizational needs.
  • Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus.
  • Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
