Job Purpose
As a Machine Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and enhancement of production machinery in a manufacturing setting. Your focus will be on maximizing productivity, minimizing downtime, and upholding high-quality standards through effective troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and adhere to safety protocols, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and supporting the organization’s operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to Unilever’s safety policies and relevant legislation.
- Workplace Hazards: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of workplace hazards and implement appropriate safety and environmental procedures.
- Environmental Stewardship: Reduce waste and minimize health, safety, and environmental impacts through effective waste management.
- Operational Oversight: Conduct pre-start-up checks to ensure equipment is clean and safe, and manage start-up and shutdown procedures as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor production machinery, adjusting settings based on production requirements.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and follow preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular quality checks and document any deviations from established standards.
- Data Analysis: Capture and analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure seamless operations.
- Training: Assist in training new operators on equipment operation and safety protocols.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and prioritize production losses using performance measures.
- Problem Solving: Utilize appropriate tools and techniques to address and eliminate recurring issues.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating responsibility and strong communication skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Technical college certificate (Level III/IV) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with raw materials, production parameters, and quality standards.
Skills
- Strong understanding of process parameters, safety, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of machine components, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Proven track record in managing material wastes and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Familiarity with Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities and implementation.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Excellence (Manex), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Unilever Manufacturing Standards (UMS) is a plus.
