Breaking News: Truck Accident in Afghanistan Claims Lives

At least 18 people, including 10 children, have died in a truck accident in eastern Afghanistan. The crash occurred on Saturday morning in the Qarghayi district of Laghman province.

The truck was carrying Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan. It overturned on a major highway near the Surkhakan intersection around 5:30 AM local time. Authorities report the driver fell asleep, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a ditch.

More than 30 passengers were injured, with some in critical condition. Emergency services transported the injured to hospitals in Nangarhar province, where several remain in intensive care.

The Taliban government has expressed condolences to the victims’ families. They announced 730,000 afghanis ($10,000) in emergency assistance for those affected.

Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan due to poor road conditions and lack of enforcement of traffic regulations. In the past 10 days alone, at least 20 people have died in separate accidents across the country.
