Breaking News: Declan Rice Named England’s Vice-Captain for World Cup
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice will serve as England’s vice-captain for the upcoming World Cup. The 27-year-old has earned 72 caps for the national team and is considered one of the most experienced players in the squad.
Rice recently helped Arsenal win the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season. He also played a key role in their journey to the Champions League final, which they lost to Paris St-Germain on penalties.
During Harry Kane’s absence, Rice acted as captain in a friendly match against Wales. England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed Rice’s new role after a friendly win over New Zealand, stating, “I think I would say Declan is my vice-captain.”
Rice, along with Arsenal teammates Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze, has joined England’s training camp in Florida. The team will play one more friendly against Costa Rica on Wednesday and a closed-door match with Miami FC before heading to Kansas City.
England’s World Cup campaign begins on June 17 against Croatia, with additional matches against Ghana and Panama in Group L.
