Breaking News: Investigation into Dog Remains in California
On Friday, the sheriff’s office announced the discovery of 117 intact dog remains in Fortuna, California. The remains were found in two excavated areas on a 50-acre property, approximately 288 miles north of San Francisco.
Investigators also found 21 dog skulls and hundreds of other bones. Six microchips were located in a different area near the remains. X-rays of 70 bodies revealed bullet fragments, suggesting many dogs died from gunshot wounds.
Additionally, investigators discovered a barn believed to be the site where the dogs were killed. Most of the deceased dogs were microchipped, and analysts are reviewing the data to identify them.
Miranda, the facility owner, stated that his organization is a “no-kill rescue” and denied any wrongdoing. He claimed that euthanasia was only used in rare cases involving terminal conditions or serious dangers.
The sheriff’s office is urging the public for patience as they continue their complex investigation. No charges have been filed yet, but the department stated that if sufficient evidence of animal cruelty or fraud is found, the case will be submitted for prosecution.
