Breaking News: Steve Clarke Resigns as Scotland Head Coach

Steve Clarke has resigned as head coach of the Scotland national football team following their exit from the World Cup. The Scottish FA confirmed his departure in a statement after Croatia’s victory over Ghana on Saturday.

Players were informed of Clarke’s resignation while still at their training base in Charlotte. Clarke had recently signed a new four-year contract just a month prior to his resignation.

Scotland’s World Cup journey included a 1-0 victory against Haiti, a 1-0 loss to Morocco, and a 3-0 defeat to Brazil. This left them with slim chances of advancing, which ended after the Brazil match.

In his farewell, Clarke expressed gratitude for the players, stating they deserved recognition for their efforts. He became head coach seven years ago, leading Scotland to two European Championships and this summer’s World Cup.

Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell acknowledged Clarke’s contributions, highlighting the progress made during his tenure. He thanked Clarke for his service and noted that Scotland supporters would remember their return to major tournaments.
