Breaking News: Rescue Efforts Continue in Caraballeda, Venezuela
Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) reports that a boy named Moises was found buried under approximately 3 meters (9.8 feet) of debris. A rescue team spent six hours working to reach him on Saturday. Moises was discovered near his deceased mother and sister.
On social media, Rodríguez shared a video showing the rescue of another 11-year-old boy in Caraballeda. French and American teams also rescued a father and his teenage son from the rubble on Sunday.
The coastal region of La Guaira, where Caraballeda is located, has been severely affected. Rescuers are facing challenges from aftershocks, which are causing fear among residents. Many people are living in their cars or camping in safer areas, such as the local airport and golf course.
The golf course has turned into a makeshift hospital and donation center for those who have lost everything. Helicopters are using a designated landing pad there to deliver supplies and emergency personnel.
Many areas, including Caribe and Tanaguarena, have not yet seen debris removal efforts, leading to frustration among residents.
