Breaking News: England Supporters Commended for Behavior in U.S.
England supporters in the United States have been praised by police for their excellent behavior during the World Cup group stage. The UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) reported no incidents of violence or disorder involving England fans in America. Out of five arrests, only two occurred at a World Cup match.
In contrast, there have been 463 football-related incidents in England and Wales, a significant increase from previous tournaments. At this stage in Euro 2024, there were 304 incidents, and 291 during the 2022 World Cup.
Scotland fans have also been recognized for their good behavior, although their figures are not included in this report. Chief Constable Mark Roberts of the UKFPU emphasized the positive conduct of fans, stating that they are being policed based on their behavior rather than outdated reputations.
All five England supporters arrested have been released and referred to the UKFPU. Of the 463 incidents in the UK, 162 occurred in licensed premises, and 109 were domestic incidents involving family members over 16. A total of 88 people have been arrested, an increase from previous tournaments.
