Breaking News: Tensions Rise Between Afghanistan and Pakistan
The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has announced that it conducted strikes on targets near the border with Pakistan. Several people in Pakistan’s Balochistan province were reported injured.
In response, Pakistan’s military stated it shot down four drones and warned of a strong response to any further attacks. The BBC has not confirmed the details of the strikes independently.
This escalation follows Pakistan’s airstrikes on Afghanistan on Sunday, which reportedly killed 28 civilians, according to the UN. Afghanistan claims the death toll from that attack is 36, with over 160 injured.
Both countries have accused each other of harboring terrorists and carrying out unprovoked attacks. Pakistan claims its operations target militants, while Afghanistan describes the airstrikes as “cowardly” acts.
Pakistan’s information minister stated that 29 militants were killed in their operations in Afghanistan’s Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces.
Recent months have seen intermittent clashes and airstrikes, resulting in numerous casualties on both sides.
