26-Year-Old Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder Following Death of Former MP Ann Widdecombe

Breaking News: Arrest Made in Ann Widdecombe’s Death

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the arrest occurred at an address in Newton Abbot, Devon, on Friday. The suspect is currently in custody.

Widdecombe, 78, was found with serious injuries at her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday around 11:40 BST. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as terrorism. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman noted that there is no information suggesting the crime is politically motivated, and it is too early to determine if the suspect had any connection to Widdecombe.

The investigation is in its early stages, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Widdecombe’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.

Political leaders, including Prime Minister and Sir Keir Starmer, expressed their shock at the news. Widdecombe had a long political career, serving as an MP for 23 years and later as an MEP.
