Urgent: Zaporizhzhia Faces Intensified Russian Attacks as Acting Mayor Describes Harrowing Experience Amid Drone Strikes

Breaking News: Increased Attacks in Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine – Acting Mayor Regina Kharchenko reported on recent attacks in the city. During a severe assault, she took cover in a bathroom as the sounds of explosions intensified.

A Shahed drone crashed near an office, causing a loud bang. Another drone struck a cable, disrupting internet service. Kharchenko described the situation as “just another ordinary day in Zaporizhzhia.”

Zaporizhzhia serves as the administrative capital of the region, which Russia claims as its own. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, located about 50 kilometers away, remains under Russian occupation.

In response to escalating attacks, the city council convened in an underground shelter. Kharchenko stated that civilians, public transport, and residential buildings are increasingly targeted. Plans are underway to construct more shelters and install anti-drone nets in vulnerable areas. Additionally, anti-shatter film is being applied to windows in schools, hospitals, and public buildings.

Kharchenko expressed personal fears about safety, revealing she sometimes sleeps on the floor of her corridor. “I live an ordinary life,” she said, highlighting the challenges faced by residents in the city.
