Breaking News: Wildfire Risk in England and Wales
Three record-breaking heatwaves and a lack of rainfall have increased wildfire risks in parts of England and Wales.
The hot and dry weather is expected to continue over the next few days. Strong winds and low humidity will accelerate the drying of vegetation, raising the fire risk.
If fires do start, stronger winds could help them spread quickly and make them harder to control.
The risk may slightly decrease by the middle of next week, as winds are predicted to become lighter and rain may occur. However, “exceptional” wildfire danger could still remain in East Anglia by Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the National Fire Chiefs Council warned that even a small spark can lead to a wildfire in hot, dry conditions. Such fires can quickly threaten people, homes, wildlife, and the countryside.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions.
