Breaking News: Houthi Attacks on Saudi Oil Tankers Amid US Strikes on Iran
Yemen’s Houthi movement claims to have attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. The tankers named are the Encelia and the Layla. The attack has not yet been confirmed.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated that drones and missiles were used against the ships for allegedly violating their naval blockade. The Houthis have announced a “maritime embargo” against Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the United States has launched its 12th consecutive night of strikes on Iran. Reports indicate that two people were killed in these strikes, which targeted Iranian military sites. The US Central Command stated that the strikes aimed to degrade Iran’s military capabilities in the region.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that an “unknown projectile” struck a Saudi tanker about 130 km from Al Shuqaiq, causing a fire but no casualties. British maritime risk management group Vanguard confirmed that the Encelia was hit.
Iranian state media reported that the Strait of Hormuz was “completely closed” following an explosion. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have stopped three oil tankers from passing through the strait.
