Breaking News: Arrest Made in Murder Investigation

Police in South Yorkshire have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murdering Ann Widdecombe. The suspect, a white British national, is currently in police custody, according to a statement from Devon and Cornwall Police.

Widdecombe, a former Conservative minister and current spokesperson for Reform UK, was found dead at her home in Haytor, Devon, with serious injuries. She was discovered at 11:40 BST on Thursday, and authorities believe the attack occurred nearly 24 hours earlier.

Earlier, a 26-year-old man was arrested in Newton Abbot, about 11 miles away, on the same suspicion but was released on Saturday. Police stated he is no longer part of the investigation.

The latest arrest took place approximately 270 miles from Widdecombe’s residence. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they were supported by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire Police during the arrest.

Authorities noted there is no indication that this incident is terrorism-related. The investigation remains active, and no further information will be released tonight. Widdecombe’s family has been informed of the developments. A significant police presence continues at her home, with forensic officers on-site.
